FAQ-1

Why did you conduct this project?

Covid-19 crisis had a devastating effect on the economy of the whole European Union, with an increase in unemployment and especially among young people (18-24 years old), with an average rate of 17% (Eurostat, July 2020). This figure soars to over 25% in Turkey, 31.1% in Italy, and 41.7% in Spain. On the other hand, every crisis generates opportunities. This crisis is expected to create an important opportunity for rural tourism which is an industry that has social effects such as increasing the income of countries, creating job opportunities, and reviving social life. The way to seize this opportunity is through entrepreneurship. After Covid-19 it is expected that tourists will prefer natural-rural areas known as healthy to travel and where distance can be maintained easily. The whole world has realized that with the epidemic, sustainable development is more urgent and necessary (UN Economic and Social Council, 2020). Youth employment remains an important problem across Europe. In this context, young entrepreneurs who will take initiative on rural tourism will have a significant impact on the local and international levels. Actions and policies are being carried out to solve this problem. Among them, it strikes that the most important sector that reverses rural unemployment is tourism. After Covid-19, it is seen that both tourists and entrepreneurs use digital applications in the field of tourism more intensively. This situation requires young enterprises in the field of tourism to be knowledgeable about digitalization. In tourism, a destination must develop resilience to issues such as excessive dependence on a single resource, health, safety, natural disasters, human disasters, climate change, and so on. Thus, taking into account the rising rate of youth unemployment, the development of rural tourism, and the adoption of Young Entrepreneurs to uncertain situations by antifragility concept, our project is addressed to young people between 18-30 (especially from disadvantaged backgrounds) who have potential, and interest to be entrepreneurs in rural area tourism. Anti-fragility is about the possibilities for entrepreneurs to use blank spaces that crises create to innovate and promote new cultures and ways to do business.
